ADAS
RECALIBRATION

Many newer vehicles use a forward-facing camera mounted at or near the windshield. That camera can support lane, braking, cruise-control and other driver-assistance features. When the windshield is replaced, the vehicle manufacturer may require the camera system to be recalibrated.
Insight Auto Glass performs supported static, dynamic and dual windshield-related recalibration procedures and provides documentation for completed calibrations.

Three Types of Recalibration
The Procedure Depends on the Vehicle
Static, dynamic and dual ADAS recalibrations are all available through our mobile service.
Static
The vehicle remains stationary while the required targets or patterns are positioned according to the calibration procedure. Static recalibration can be completed mobile at the vehicle’s location using the required calibration equipment and setup.
Available Mobile
Dynamic
The vehicle is driven under the required road, speed and environmental conditions while the system completes its learning procedure. Dynamic recalibration can be completed as part of our mobile service from the vehicle’s location.
Available Mobile
Dual
Some vehicles require both a static calibration and a dynamic drive. Both procedures can be completed as part of the same mobile service, in the required sequence.
Static + Dynamic — Available Mobile
Note: Not every vehicle uses the same method. We determine the procedure from the specific vehicle and supported service information.
1
Confirm Requirements
We identify the vehicle, camera system and required calibration procedure before starting the mobile service.
2
Inspect and Scan
We inspect the vehicle on site and review applicable diagnostic information for anything that could interfere with calibration.
3
Prepare the Vehicle
Required setup items such as tire pressure, steering position, vehicle load and ride condition are reviewed and prepared at the service location.
4
Perform the Procedure
We complete the required static calibration, dynamic calibration or both as a mobile service at the vehicle’s location.
5
Verify the Result
We verify the calibration completion status and review the relevant system information before the service is completed.
6
Provide Documentation
Documentation is provided for completed calibration procedures after the mobile service is finished.
Our Process
WHAT TO EXPECT
Why Calibration Can Fail or Be Delayed
The Vehicle Has to Be Ready for the Procedure
Recalibration depends on more than the camera itself. Existing diagnostic faults, camera or bracket damage, alignment issues, vehicle modifications, unsuitable road or weather conditions, communication problems or other vehicle conditions can prevent completion. If a calibration does not complete, we identify what we can and explain the next step instead of simply repeating the procedure.

Systems That May Use the Windshield Camera
One Service Process When Both Are Required
If your windshield replacement requires recalibration, we can coordinate the glass and supported windshield-related ADAS procedure through the same service process. Windshield replacement and any required static, dynamic or dual ADAS recalibration can be completed through our mobile service.

FAQ
Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers
What is ADAS recalibration?
ADAS recalibration is a vehicle-specific procedure used to restore the correct reference points for cameras and other driver-assistance systems after certain repairs or changes to the vehicle.
How do I know if my vehicle has a windshield camera?
Many vehicles have a forward-facing camera mounted near the rearview mirror at the top of the windshield. We can also identify the vehicle’s ADAS equipment and required procedure using the year, make, model and VIN.
How long does ADAS recalibration take?
The time depends on the vehicle and whether it requires a static, dynamic or dual procedure. Vehicle condition, diagnostic faults and road or environmental requirements can also affect the process. We can provide a better estimate once we identify the required procedure.
What if the calibration will not complete?
If a calibration does not complete, we check for diagnostic faults, vehicle conditions, setup requirements or other issues that may be preventing the procedure from finishing. We then explain what needs to be corrected or diagnosed before another calibration attempt.
Why can windshield replacement require ADAS recalibration?
A forward-facing camera views the road through the windshield. Replacing the glass can change the camera’s relationship to the windshield and its reference to the road, which is why the vehicle manufacturer may require recalibration after replacement.
What is static vs. dynamic recalibration?
Static recalibration is performed with the vehicle stationary using the required targets, measurements and calibration equipment. Dynamic recalibration is completed while the vehicle is driven under specified road and operating conditions. Some vehicles require both procedures in sequence.
Can ADAS recalibration be done mobile?
Yes. Static, dynamic and dual ADAS recalibration can all be completed through our mobile service. Static procedures are performed at the vehicle’s location using the required equipment and setup, while dynamic procedures are completed on the road.
Can insurance or warranty coverage include ADAS recalibration?
Yes. ADAS recalibration may be covered when it is required as part of an eligible glass claim or covered repair. Coverage depends on the individual policy or contract.
